Fuel Tank(s) for my 3AJ

I've got a 3AJ that I use for my daily commute into London, and the fuel tank is rusting severely inside causing the fuel lines and filters to become blocked. I've seen you can buy tank sealant resin and such like to sort this out, but I am thinking I'd like to get a plastic replacement tank. Does anyone know where I can get such a tank (that doesn't cost a fortune! - I've seen a very nice 38 litre tank for sale on a German website at huge 699 euros. A lot too much for what I want to pay, but superb capacity!!). If anyone can help me out and know where I could source a plastic fuel tank (either standard capacity or extended range capacity) I'd love to here from you.

On another note, still tank related. I've also been trying very hard to find out where I could get some saddle tanks (fuel tanks to fit under/behind the side panels below the seat). This type of tank was used in the desert raid races in the 80's, but I cannot find anyone who can supply these either.

Hopefuly someone out there in the world can advise me on all this.

Cheers guys.
Craig....

Just out interest (I am considering a bigger tank for my '03 model) - what useable capacity do you get with a 23 litre tank. From the pictures I've seen it looks as if all the fuel would not get to the tap, being held in low points. Thanks for any help.

My standard 3AJ 23 Litre tank gets me about 400 to 430km (before I switch to reserve - depending on how I'm riding). I use my bike just on the road and spend about 35% of the time riding at about 110 to 120kph, with the rest of time spent in or filtering through traffic.

Thanks, Racinghero. That's a bit more than I would expect to get out of my 15 litre tank, including using my reserve. Sounds good.

Hi racinghero (what sort of name is that?), I recently bought a front and rear tank for my 3AJ from France, its by a company called Motoforms and acording to the seller has been used in the paris dakar and a couple of other desert races. It fits on with the horn being moved and the bottom crossbar mount for the tank being modified to be shorter.
The front tank is really two tanks as theres a divide down the middle and two fillers on top,it fits the fairing and holds 45 litres. The rear tank is really a side and rear tank in one replacing the left hand side panel and tail unit with a filler above the back light, I've not filled it yet but should imagine it takes around 15 litres. Again it fits relatively easily with two rubber mounts in existing holes and the rest of the mounting also on existing holes.
The standard saddle fits (just) and it even came with tenere stickers already on it!
Maybe these are the tanks your thinking about? I came upon these purely by accident but should imagine France,Italy,Spain and Germany would be the places to look because obviously their not made anymore.

Cheers Fish (What sort of name is this!)

racinghero.... Anagrame of Craig Heron (honest!). Anyway, sounds like you've got exactly what I want!! Any chance you might come across another set, or want to sell yours? I've had emails from your brother, who said you'd be visiting....I'd love some photos, to see if I could replicate the setup?
Cheers, Fish (what kind of name is that?)
