Front Rack for XT600E

After an abortive attempt to get RikyCross to sell me one of these and further ongoing refusals to supply or refund a friend of mine (if you haven't got the message from the above - Don't send them any money unless you believe they are a charity!), I am attempting to have RikyCross's front rack for the XT600E replicated here in the UK. But with enough changes to stop any infringements and it would be in black!

Is anyone interested in buying one for their bike on a co-operative buy. If I can get 10 orders it gives us a chance of getting them built.
Please e-mail me on andy[at]joatmoa.co.uk

Interested. Will it fit a 2003 XT600E and what sort of price are we looking at?

Matt :)

I doubt he or anyone could hold a patent for such a thing.....

Form follows function.............

Front Rack

I contacted the people who make the Renntec Racks (Technical Tubes - Main Menu) who are in Three Legged Cross, Dorset. This was the reply I received today..
Andrew.
You did get the email address right,
but as I'm sure you can appreciate these
things do take time.

The cost of developing and fitting a rack to your bike
will be approximately £ 850.00p + VAT.

We shall require the bike for about 7 - 10 working days.

As per your last email we have a photo of the rack,
so if you have an old rack that will be helpful.

Regards

This would only be sensible if 20 people wanted racks as the £1020 inc VAT is only the set-up fee.
I am now looking locally to see if I can design and fabricate ONE locally. If it's successful I will get back on here with photos.

Please note that the replies above do not tally with the e-mails I received.

Sadly this is very true, same thing happened to a friend of mine, and if this guy's reputation here in Italy is anything to go by, it's a wonder he's not behind bars already.
Avoid Rikycross like the plague.

I've got one which is exactly like that. I can take pictures and measure it in case it if helps to make the development cheaper.

If there is such an interest, I might also start my 1st ever Ebay auction (only bought, never sold things).:mchappy:

So around 10 hours work for development... that only makes sense if you are making quite a few. Otherwise you could just use those 10 hours to build ONE rack...

My personal preference for a headlight protector is a sheet of perspex - stops all the small stones that can chip a headlight. Must be easily removable for easy washing in a creek, say 3x 6M caphead screws. Those wielded on metal grids can be hard to clean behind and let smaller stones right through.

l600pas 18 Mar 2013 15:21

I quite agree

I just wanted a rack to carry stuff on, the headlamp protector was a bonus.
Like yourself i prefer a lexan poly headlamp shield, much better.
If i had the bending equip im sure i could knock some up.

3 tabs on that rack would mount a flat bit of lexan .. no bending required. Just cut it out, drill 3 holes and jobs done. Much simpler than that metal mesh.
