Front disc cover

Does anyone know if a front disc cover from an XT600Z will fit the 600E?

I don't think any of the 600E's were made with disc covers, there does not seem to be anywhere to fix it to.

Maybe a member here had success with some minor modification.

My 1990 XT600E had a front disc cover...

Z? you're talking about the tenere right?!

03XT600E 19 Sep 2010 17:17

Yes by the Z I mean Tenere, different breakers list them as off of either one of these.

I did not know the earlier XT600E's had them as standard but certainly the 4PT models do not.

The covers have 2 fixing holes so the Tenere must have brackets to fix it to.

er, no it don't fit. Disc is bigger on 4pt. Don't ask how I knowdoh

Why do you want'em? They were apparantly very bling....in 1980 =)

I cant see them preventing a warped disc from hitting a stone or something like that. In fact, i dont think i've ever heard about that happening, protector or no protector.

Imo its just another place where mud can build up.

Well I had an advisory about my front brake not delivering consistent braking, the tester thought the disc was warped.

I just bought and fitted a new disc, pads and stainless steel braided brake line.
I can notice the difference in braking efficiency and smoothness on braking.

I don't know how it could have warped (it had only done a few thousand miles when I bought it this year) and I don't know how much protection the cover would give, but some at least.
Bling is not the reason I want it.

Yep, I have a warped disc from off-roading. I felt it straight away on the next road section I did, it kind of does a gentle kangaroo when coming to a stop at give way lines, etc. I thought it was just mud/dirt, but cleaned thoroughly and it still did it next time out, has done ever since. I'll just live with it as discs are bloody expensive. Jens has a point about being a trap for mud though.

You can take it out, take it to a machinist and have the disc "de-warped"..
Same process than with cars disc brakes.

Also, it seems like none of you read my thread on the waved discs huh?!!

You should get that fixed! and don't forget to put in new brake pads!

Thanks Jens!

And I've found the rear one cheap on ebay too.

If I remember right, it should fit perfectly but I don't..
Need to re-check things back!

That other disc I found is 35USD +20USD(shipping) = 55USD shipped!
Rear brake disc that is!
