FNG with a 1991 XT600E

Hey everybody, new guy here. I hear this is the place to come to for XT600s, and as it happens I just got one. Its 1991 XT600E with like 28k miles on the odo.

Its not in bad shape mechanically, Ive been fixing it up and riding around my property, sliding it around my field. Its by far the fastest thing Ive ridden on dirt, it flat snorts in 1st-3rd. Eventually I want to kinda go the sumo route with it, maybe take it to supermoto track at summit point.

But its a little rough around the edges, kinda ratty looking at the moment. Most of the plastics are rashed up and twisted, and replacements seem scarce on ebay. I was just going to cut some covers out of plastic for the time being to cover the side panels.
And the carbs could use a good cleaning, and while Im in there maybe I'll get a new exhaust pipe and re jet it.

My main problem with it right now however is that the battery goes dead after a few hours of riding. Which sucks, because electronics are my Achilles heal. When I rev the engine the battery voltage drops.
From what Ive read it is likely my stator has gone bad? That or the rectifier? Is there a good source to find replacements online that will work?

I would check battery first, if its not taking charge nothing will help. Here is a cheap one Regulator Rectifier Voltage for Yamaha FZR 250 500 600 XT600 FZX250 XV250 Virago | eBay

Provick, isnt everything on german ebay, uh, in german? I dont think I will be able to sprechen sie same lingity. Or do you guys use like google translate or something, that or I guess most germans do speak english now that I think about it...

xtrock, its a new battery from autozone, Im 98% sure its on the bike. Plus I had my giant battery from my bandit 1200 bungie corded to the side of the xt when I was first getting it running and it was fine for a few hours.

I will totally get that rectifier, thanks. I figure it cant hurt to throw parts at the problem, even if it isnt exactly what it is, the stockers are getting pretty old.

Thanks for the help you guys. Now if you will excuse me, its time to get familiar with the search function.

Google chrome translates it for you. Just right click page and select translate.

It sure sounds like a rectifier problem.

I dont know where you live, but all people outside Scandinavia have so low prices on the orignal that i wouldnt bother buying cheap from china other than keep for spare. The original is only 74 from dealer in US and its the A3 version, what they change in the different version i dont know, but i quess its an improvement. I got an A1 here for spare part, and china parts sometimes take 4-5 weeks in shipping to Europe.
