Fitment of Tenere panels on a plain XT600?
 

Hello folks,

I was lucky enough to acquire an old Tenere 34L type fuel tank for my plain jane 43F XT600. Lucky Me!

I was wondering if any experts could tell me if the sidepanels for a 34L Tenere are a direct fitment to a 43F frame? Meaning are the mounting brackets/gromets on the frames in same spot? Are the plastic spikes on the panels in the same location? ect.

If there is a bunch of faffing about to fit them I won't bother looking for the expensive 34L panels. I'll just bodge something up.

Good question, sadly i don't know the answer?

Are you trying to make a 34L "look-a-like" then its worth the effort, your going to need the short stubby seat as well.

NOS 34L side panels are rare & expensive now, even used grubby ones gets snapped up pretty quickly.

You could make a set out of carbon with lugs to suit?

About the bike:

I guess I am looking to Tenerize the old girl. I got the 34L seat as well. Been looking for this stuff for years, Incredibily I found the tank and seat in the garage of a guy not more than 2 miles from me. The bits had been sitting on the shelf collecting dust for years. Silly luck!

Bad news I'm afraid, the mountings are in different places on a 43F.

I have a couple of 34L Teneres (which in the UK have a bit of a price premium on them)

I also got hold of a 43F (because in the UK they too are seen as plain Jane and a bit less in demand) - I was either going to use it as a source of spares for the 34L or do the as you and put the 34L tank and bits and bobs on it.

Of course it is doable but it would be a pain in the arse as the 43F and 34L are subtly and minutely different in a lot of ways, particularly the tank.seat/side panel fitting arrangements

43Fs can be a good source of spares like rims and engine internals and hubs and so on but it is not possible to swop body parts unfortunately

Many years ago I had a an XT with a Tenere tank and seat fitted so I am familiar with the difficulties bolting up thoes parts.

I was hoping you could just confirm if it's the same scenario for the side panels????

I would hate to acquire , then have to chop up a perfectly good set of 34L sidepanels. Gonna just make due with something else if they aren't a simple swap.

Sorry if I'm asking the same question twice but I want to be absolutely sure your comments above are related to the sidepanels.

Your bikes will in time become very rare and sought after (not to forget good financial investments). I wish you every luck in keeping them in that superb condition. :thumbup1:
