exhausted - two !

Hi everyone !

Bike is up and running again and now with shiney with motad stainless downpipes on, however the exhaust is blowing at the connection where the pipe and the original silencer meet. I ordered a gasket at the same time and from the same place as the exhaust. It fits the motad part but wont slip under the silencer part ? Have they sent me the wrong gasket ? The reason i ask is because i went to fit the down pipe heat cover and the bolt holes are way off , not a major problem i know but i did order xt600e 2003 parts and i would expect them to fit as they should?

Anyone come across this at all?

Thanks
Bill

Might I recommend you contact Motad as I have found them to be very helpful in all things that they produce. If you’re close to them in the midlands they may well invite you to pop in. Overall I would suggest from my experience that they are proud of their products and will help you out.

Motad try this?

Good luck :mchappy:

Hi Socks !

I have been in touch with the company who supplied them (by email) and I`m waiting for a response. Looking at the parts diagram the original downpipe is reduced in diameter at the end to allow for this gasket to fit, where as the Motad one isnt. As for the heat shield I was thinking that maybe it was an exhaust meant for an older version of xt (with the longer looking heat shield) ? The downpipes themselves fitted perfectly other than these two issues! I will post any info here as and when I find out. Thanks for your reply!

On another point, I cant believe how rusty the frame is ! It is a 2002 bike (registered in 03) must of been used in a salt mine in its former life !

Yea, I have seen reference around the webb on the lack of qaulity in the general build of the xt in later models. However, Yamaha did do some changes to the engine and in paticular to the "gearing pitting and breaking" problem to the later models, which appear to be of significance. I intend to do some reserch on this problem.

The reason I mention going to Motad them selfs, is that the slight differences in some of the models. EG the mounting point to the frame (or not) for the exhaust, whilst I'm not clear on the indevidual models and where/when those differences happen. Motad ought to be able to tell you right away, if you have a reference number on the pipes or even the box it came in.

Hope it's all sorted soon and your out on the road enjoying this amazing weather.

Rust Protection.

Get some ACF 50 to coat rusty parts and parts at risk of corrosion. The stuff is made for the aircraft industry and is really good. Lindsay.

+1 :thumbup1:

I've used it now for three years and it appears to be faaaaar better than other stuff used in the past.It tends to stay on untill washed off. I often use a brush so it can be used sparingly and it claims to be good for electrics.
