Chain tensioner on a XT600?

Is it possible to fit a chain tensioner to my '84 XT?

I'm getting fed up with having to re-tension my chain every time I go on a longish journey.

The sprockets are all new and the chain isn't a cheapie either.

I'm sure you could, they are no more than a wound spring, tension arm and roller. It wont really stop the chain from streatching, only stop it flapping about so much. Chain will still need to be adjusted. Mostly used on trials bikes now.

hi tom ive got a 85 43f ,fitted jt sprockets and a heavy duty o,ring d.i.d. chain 12 months ago ,done about 3500 miles and only adjusted it once after about 500 miles . do you ride off road ? to need adjustment every time you come home after a run seems odd . i use (profi) dry lube so no dirt sticks to the chain so no grinding paste efect . rather than fit a tenchener i would try to find out whats going on to need so much adjustment , is the wheel sliding forwould somehow ? . zigzag

I spoke to the guys at the shop where I got the chain and they said it would 'settle down' after a bit.

It'll be one more thing to do in the summer hehe :P

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
