Electric Start

I have a 1985 XT600 Tenere
Is it possible to fit electric start and if so what parts are required ?

principally yes, but:
-wiring has to be modified completly
-ignition system is different
-you need a crankshaft from xt600e
-you need the alternator and the gear (for e-starter) from xt600e
-you need the alternator-cover with the stator from xt600e
-you need the e-starter
-you need a bigger battery (higher capacity)
-oil-cooler has to be mounted somewhere else

so i would say, it is cheaper to buy a second-hand xt600e-engine. but the problem here is that the chain-alignment is different (sprocket is 10 mm towards outside). you have to modify the sprocket to keep the proper chain-alignment in the 34L frame.

my advice: leave it as it is!
