Drain bowl screw O ring

Hi All,

The carb' float bowl drain screw in my XT600Z Tenere 1990 appears to be leaking so I decided to replace its rubber o ring.

The parts list that I have for this bike (and also that for a XT600E) do not show an o ring here, so I assumed that it was supplied along with the screw and ordered the screw (5Y1-14115-00), but when it arrived the o ring was missing.

Does anyone know a part number for this o ring?
Should there be an o ring on this screw?

As always, your thoughts appreciated.

Mark

I don't know about the XT600Z, but my '94 XT600E did not have an "O" ring on the bowl drain screw. It is a tapered fit and is supposed to block off the drain passage as is (the drain screw has a tapered end to fit a mating hole; the drain screw area cuts across the drain passage at an angle so an "O" ring outside the drain passage does not help). If the drain screw THREADS are leaking, then you might be able to get away with some non-hardening, fuel-proof liquid gasket material. I replaced mine because it was leaking out the bottom and the screw head was boogered from many drain cycles. I guess you could always insert a tiny neoprene bung in the drain hole as a temporary measure.

Thanks for reply

Zap,

Thanks for your reply.

I will try the new drain screw, and if it continues to leak past the screw threads I will try some loctite 243 on the threads.

As an aside, the Clymer manual for earlier XT600's shows an o ring on this draind screw, and an XT500 carb' that I have also has one.

Thanks

Mark
