decompression lever??

I am new to the xt600 i can start only by having wife pull me with my truck, then it runs like a dream. having owned a xr500 i know of the decompression importance and knowing my stubborness i want to ride now, and now can barely walk due to kicking my pig with a broke decompression lever. I have locked in service manual and on parts fiche and cannot find the lever for decompression cable to go to. i know my bike had one you can see the stub where the handle once was. now i need to know if someone put it there, or is it suppost to have a automatic???

please help me
thanks clint

Don't start your XT being pulled by the truck... My father used to do that and besides he once got whipped by the rope, YOU CAN CRASH lol

it is much easier to just take the sparkplug out and squirt a bit of fuel directly into the combustion chamber! than you can kick it..

In order to kick these bikes.. you have to find the right point to kick it!
just kick it slowly until you find the most resistance. you have to pass that point just a tiny and then give it a long power kick!

To push-start the XT you just have to give it a few throttles and leave the throttle alone!
Put it in THIRD gear!
Now you can do it in TWO WAYS:

1- you can just run with the bike on your side and when you catch some speed let the clutch go!

2- run and get some speed then jump on the bike and when you are hitting the seat let go of the clutch.

On these bikes third gear is the easiest gear to push start them!

As far as the decompression you can use the manual, it looks cool on the bike and is the easiest one to maintain and repair!

I got an E-Start XT and I've fitted a kickstart and manual decompression! works great!

so i have opted to just redo my hand operated decompression handel so now how do i adjust it do i still give it the the same adjustment as if it where an automatic one just hold the lever as i kick let go when she breats fire?

Great idea! :P

You can pretty much do it as you want..
It depends on how much lever/cable play you have..

You just need to leave a small play so it's not always tight.
