There are plenty of copies of the std and parts manual floating around the web for the XT600 . I don't know what differences the TTR has. If I was Yamaha, I'd use a cut down XT loom for the TTR. Maybe that's too logical though...

I have an xt diagram but ithas different colours on it and also the ttr has no battery.

TTR electrical data

TTR is different from xt, you can find some basical data here:

Wartungsdaten TT600-Modelle

if you search the site www.xt600.de xt600 xt600e Tenere Ténéré - XT 600 von Yamaha you can find other useful info.

Different

TTR is definitely very different.
Beware of the TT: when starting it (this is when you know it works) do not have any electrical consumer switched on - do not grab the front brake, switch off lights, etc. Neutral light is allowed.

Does the neutral light flash when you kick? - If not, kill switch, ignition switch might be in the wrong position. Then, there are the safeties: neutral switch - clutch switch - sidestand switch - all because you might hurt yourself while biking. Normally it is sidestand and to lesser extent clutch switch that are troublemakers. Remove, take out into wood and shoot.

Then, make sure the one earth connection (close to coil I seem to remember) is clean and makes good contact.

As another daredevil option, in place of the condensor, connect a 12 V battery - a small one feels safer. If this does not make your system spark, ask again.

Scheme

And I have a scheme, just found it back. It is for a '97 TTR, but the same as my '04, so should be ok for your '02.

I have tried putting a battery in the circuit and whilst everything else works (exept rear brake light) still no spark. Will try switches tonight when I get home ,I think they have been removed but the wires could still be at fault.

Do a search back in here -- TT600R or TTR600 or whatever, and you will find earlier threads on the same subject.
It could well be something very simple, but, there again, we don't know very much about your bike and how you have been treating it!!:rolleyes2:

staffydog 8 Jul 2008 17:04

I have only had the bike for a week, it was allegedly running the day before it was delivered to me ,has been converted to supermoto.
It has had the indicaters removed and also the stand and clutch cut out switches.
Has a socket which I presume used to go to the stand switch (Blue/White+Black wires) which have been connected together but no spark whether connected or not ,no sign of any wiring to clutch lever.
Neutral light comes on when you kick it over as do the lights if turned on.
I have checked the earths and cleaned them, I have even pinched one of my wifes nail buffing sticks to clean all the terminals on the cdi and regulator :nono: but without a wiring diagram I am working blind as I can't spot a mistake even if it is under my nose:(

sanderd 9 Jul 2008 02:38

i put the microfiches on my smugmug site, incl. wiring diagram.

cheers,
sanderd.

btw. if the ttr has seen a lot of water and dirt, check if there's water
in the CDI connector. it happened to me a few times.

Is it possible to refit the oringal indicators
I fitted smaller indicators to my TTR and when at low revs if you switched the indicators on the engine cut out, I think because the indicator wires were either to close or touching each other.

staffydog 15 Jul 2008 06:42

Hi ,the indicators have just been un plugged but the problem has been narrowed down to the CDI which I had tested along with the ignition coil, the pickup coil and the generator by an extremely helpfull company called Electrex (based in Stoke Row near Henley).
It seems both the generator & the CDI are at fault with one possibly causing the demise of the other, anyway they can supply me with a new jenny for 50 quid and best of all they can repair the old CDI for £130 which is a third of the cost of a new one from Fowlers.

Hi there... ever thought of buying an aftermarket CDI? it should cost somewhat less than 130£ .....

That was the first thing I thought of but I could not find anyone selling them which was a bit of a setback, even the guy in New Zealand could not help as it is apparently a transisterised unit :confused1:.either way Electrex is only 5mins from my house so hopefully it will soon be sorted.

bacardi23 16 Jul 2008 07:46

Well..if it's easier that way you should do what best suits you...

Does anyone now if any of the XT CDI is the same as the TTR ?

if they are the same and you which to give a even better performance to your bike check this out:
