cylinder block / crankcase RHS oil leak

Hello all,

I have an oil leak from the bottom of the cylinder block (34L) where it meets the crankcase on the RHS. Its just a slight weep really. Does anybody have a fix for this that doesnt involve a top end strip down to replace the base gasket?

Any ideas appreciated ...

Are you sure it's the base gasket that's leaking, and not the R/H, clutch cover gasket? The two items are very close together, and the clutch gasket, at this point, is held by the 2 long bolts that also secure the oil filter cover, through the clutch cover. From previous experience, tightening these two bolts a bit may cure the leak.
If not, then the engine needs to be removed and stripped down to crankcase level, and a new base gasket installed, with, of course, a new head gasket.

thanks for the idea,
you're right everything is close together round there and once the oil starts coming it naturally covers everthing behind and below, and the source isnt always obvious, I'll have another look (could save me a major headache)

It's also very easy to strip the threads of the oil filter cover screws in the crankcase which can cause the same oil 'weep'. Happened to me and cured with a thread insert when I next removed the cover to replace the clutch. No problems since.
