Crankcase breather
Hi
A query for soembody who understands crankcase ventilation better then me! I did an oil change yesterday and beforehand left the bike (02 XT600E)warming up - should have been 15 mins, but got sidetracked and it was idling for about a 1/2 hour and extremely hot! by the time I remembered. Switched the engine off and a reasonable quantity of oil gushed out and exited down by the gear shift - cleaned it up and no more oil, don't think it was a leak. Changed the oil which it turns out was about 250ml overfull and all seems well. Taken it for 60km of green laning today and no leaks - but I was stopping every 10 mins and checking just in case. Is the oil likely to have been blown out, overfull and too hot, from the crankcase - I assume that the fact that it only gushed out when the engine was switched off is significant. Be very grateful if somebody could advise and put me out of oil-leak paranoia... Thanks Bish |
