cranckshaft loose in bearing

Hi

I giving my 3AJ an overhaul because of the noise while riding in fith gear. The sprockets of fifth gear and the oilpump were indeed badly worn but the rest of the engine is almost new.
I couldnt get the bolt of the flywheel (is dit correct english?) on the righthand side on the cranckshaft loose, but since i only wanted to fix the 5the gear I didnt mind. Now I just found out that I can quite easily move the cranckshaft in the bearing. Only a small distance because the flywheel is still on it, but i can move it sideways. (cant really feel if it can move up and down)
From earlier experiences with XT500's I remember the crancshaft was always very tight in the bearing.
Is this normal for a XT600?

Yes
The bearing is a C3 clearance item, and neither the bearing on the crank or the bearing in the casing are interferance fit.
XT main bearings usually fail when they become pitted, so check if you can.
