Clutch a heavy pull!!

Gents I've been struggling with the heavy pull on the XT600e since i bought her!
So far i've;
  • checked routing
  • oiled cable
  • checked for wear
  • lubricated and cleaned purch

After 1500km's i'm getting a little tied of the heavy pull, this is my first XT600, are they all like this?

Don't get me wrong, for general riding where i have only a few gear changes it's fine, but (and there is always a but) today i was exploring some back roads that turned into tracks, in and out of creeks etc, and by the end of 4hrs riding i could hardly use the clutch, in fact i succumbed to clutch-less up changes on the road home.

I have looked at these and the price is ok, IF it reduces the amount of force i need to apply! they make a standard length version...

So, am i alone, is there a fix or do i just need more gym time :cool4:

I would say the clutch on mine is no heavier than another other bike I have ridden. If everything is lubed and adjusted as you say, I would suspect a fault in the clutch itself - warped plates perhaps.

Having said that, even a light clutch can cause problems in certain circumstances. I was on my Honda Pan Euro 1300 (which had a very light clutch) in a traffic jam on the Antwerp ring road, and I was probably using the clutch non-stop for at least an hour. My left forearm pumped up like Popeye's and I could barely use my hand. Perhaps you just need to ride more off-road :)

Welcome to try another

I'm in the north side of brisbane, Herston through the day, near Mitchelton after hours - if you want to do a comparision. I actually would like to compare my 2001 model against another for similar reasons. PM if you want.

Cheers,

B

Gear the bike down for the backroads and offroad. Perhaps swap to a 14 tooth CS sprocket.

It's possible someone has fitted after market clutch springs in the recent past as part of a clutch plate replacement. A lot of these springs are advertised to be 10% stiffer to minimise slippage etc.. Ten percent might not sound much but I found a noticeable (and like you painful) increase when I put a set (made by EBC I think) in a KLR 650. The increase is sufficient to make me plan to change back to an OEM set in the near future.

Mate I've just geared it up to a 15 tooth front sprocket,to give me some better "legs" on the main roads! There is lots to do and modify on this bike before I'm truly happy with it.

Kinda hard to get it all, thoose big legs will hurt you once things go techincal. It doesn take long for a CS swap onve youve done it a few times, and it can make a world of difference.

Works for me anyway :)

You could always fit an Easy clutch.
