Chain tensioner on a XT600?

Is it possible to fit a chain tensioner to my '84 XT?

I'm getting fed up with having to re-tension my chain every time I go on a longish journey.

The sprockets are all new and the chain isn't a cheapie either.:(

I'm sure you could, they are no more than a wound spring, tension arm and roller. It wont really stop the chain from streatching, only stop it flapping about so much. Chain will still need to be adjusted. Mostly used on trials bikes now.

hi tom ive got a 85 43f ,fitted jt sprockets and a heavy duty o,ring d.i.d. chain 12 months ago ,done about 3500 miles and only adjusted it once after about 500 miles . do you ride off road ? to need adjustment every time you come home after a run seems odd . i use (profi) dry lube so no dirt sticks to the chain so no grinding paste efect . rather than fit a tenchener i would try to find out whats going on to need so much adjustment , is the wheel sliding forwould somehow ? . zigzag:thumbup1:

I spoke to the guys at the shop where I got the chain and they said it would 'settle down' after a bit.

Hi, yes i have a chain tensioner fitted. BUT, only a non o-ring chain fits through the rubber block!!!!! Buy a trials bike tensioner (£14 or so), and bodgle away.

I'm actually looking to putting a YZ125 enclosed chain guide on my '90 XT600E...

It'll be one more thing to do in the summer hehe :P
