Chain tensioner for XTZ 660?

I am considering buying a generic chain tensioner for my XTZ to quiet the chain. Something like this: ATV Chain Tensioner * NEW * QPS : eBay Motors (item 380235719719 end time Jul-20-10 09:36:09 PDT)

I will probably have to hack it to make it fit and work. Are there any known well-working alternatives for the XTZ 660?

Here's a really cheap alternative with some funky colors. Seems easy to adapt/DIY it even if it's not a perfect fit: Motorcycle Chain tensioner Belt ATV Motocress: eBay Motors (item 220618780155 end time Jul-08-10 04:17:21 PDT)

I personally cant see why !!

If it's really noisey, get it adjusted or replaced ! Bikes have rollers and guides in all the places they need them. If your chain is really noisey, ask yourself why !!!!

Those ATV rollers will lift the chain off the swingarm guide so you will have to be really careful how the chain runs with it on. You will also have to adjust the chain length/tension depending on the strength of the spring.

It's not really noisy -- I just want it to be really silent (: The rest of the bike sounds really smooth, the chain is the only moving part making any audible clatter when driving over potholes and such.

Properly adjusted, will this strain the drive shaft bearings more or less than before?

It's never going to be silent... Forget this ATV roller !!

It will put as much strain as the spring of the roller. Nothing really to worry about.

I'm not sure how you would set the freeplay on the chain. It would have to be after....

Just keep your chain lubed and well adjusted and wear some earplugs .. EVERYONE should wear earplugs anyway.

Ted come on.. don't be mean to the boys!!

About those springs...they are soft as butter..

The point of that "tensioner" is to just making the chain not vibe all over the place and make the noise because it doesn't actually tension(stretch) the chain.

To use that "tensioner" you just have to setup your chain as usual but with it, you can actually use it even looser than normal but not too much :D

By the way.. the tensioner works better if it is placed below the swingarm..
