Chain Tension adjustment advice please

99 xt600e My (sprocket) chain seems to 'Hang Loose' or Down. I just bought the bike and really need help (quick) on how TIGHT to adjust it.

Being new to this site and Not doing a search on Chain Adjustment I thought I'd just Post my question. Thanks to this site I was able to do a search and Pretty Much found my answer...Pretty much. ...Time to get my hands dirty. Thanks brent

The manual says 30-40mm slack, when the bike is in upright position without additional weight on it.

Its better with a bit more slack, than with to tight a chain, that could damage you're bearings.

Hope that helps, when you've done it a few times, then you can see when its time, without meassuring and other stuff.

I would broadly concur with this, other than I was taught to have 1 inch (25mm) with the bike fully loaded and level. Takes more into consideration. Again, too loose is better than too tight.
