Most off-road bike shops should have chain rollers of various diameters in stock.

If there's nowhere local to you, try Off Road Only Ltd. CHAIN ROLLERS

Hi there,

Can anyone add some pictures on how the chain rollers work and fit? I have an '84 XT600 and want to see how to fit the rollers, and if it would actually be beneficial to do so - can anyone tell me what the benefits are of fitting chain rollers?

Heres a random pic of my rusty bike, thats shows the lower chainroller:

Its primary use must be to guide the chain in a straight line, and to make sure it doesnt slap too much.

Hi theoneandonlymin

I suggest you stick to the genuine Yamaha chain rollers. The frame of our XTs has a pillar with an internal thread that the chain rollers mount on. The after market ones that I have experience of don't work with this system. They just have a mounting bolt passing through them, and the hole through them is too small for the pillar on our frame to go through.

The Yamaha chain roller comes in two piece: a nylon inner tube and a thicker rubber (?) outer. I'm told the ones off the very last XT600s were made of the best material.

All the best

I used a cheap one off Ebay too. With 20,000 miles on, it was still going strong.

Just make sure you fit it with enough play and a lock nut.

granted this is on my 87 but I just picked up a MooseRacing chain roller that has sealed roller bearings PN.1231-0036 . It came with the bolt and threads into the stock location with a couple of spacer washers behind it . It works great
