Cairo, wrecking an 80s XT?

Is anyone in Cairo or Egypt wrecking an XT or Tenere (especially from the 90s)?

PS hard riding in the desert with negligent maintenance, is not what I mean by wrecking!

What exactly are you looking for? I know my way around Cairo when it comes to XTs maybe I can help.

Hi there,

I'm looking for the teflon chain guide that bolts on to the swing arm, and protects it as the chain enters the front sprocket. I also need a rear mono shock if I can find one with some fight left in it. Cheers for the help. Are you in Cairo yourself? If you are you can phone me on 3803490, or 0101836071

Have you tried Mohammed Suelam? He's usually the best bet when in comes to XT parts. He's in Maadi 0105383771. If you he doesn't have it let me know and I'll ask some friends in Gesr El Suez. Yes I live here in Cairo, i'll give you a call...

Yeah Mohames said he'd try to find one for me, but I'm not holding my breath! I've got access to a late model TT shock, what do you think my chances are of that fitting?

My experience is with pre 90 XT only so I couldn’t tell you. But we can make some measurements and see if it fits. We should start by measuring the joints and the travel and if it matches. Does the TT unit have a reservoir? Is it fixed next to the body or is it attached by a hose?

If you need mechanical advice and labor I can put you in touch with a very good friend and a very competent motorcycle mechanic, Raed Baddar. He raced in a lot of rallies on XT and TT so he should be able to point you in the right direction.
