Buying a Tenere

Hi,

I've just got my licence so I'm pretty much a newbie and have decided to buy a tenere as my first bike.
What should I be looking for when I buy one of these awesome bikes?
Are there any common defects I should be aware of?

any help very much appreaciated!

thanks,
Warren Miller

Well, if they tell you the previous owner was an old lady who only used it to go shopping, you should be very, very carefull...

Do you have an idea which tenere your after? e.g. xt600 tenere, xtz660 tenere 3yf/4my. etc...

I don't know much about the xt600, but if you go for a xtz660 pre 94 make sure it has a finned type Regulator/Rectifier. You can find this on the right hand side of the dash bracket behind the front light. The finned one would look like this:-

Have a good look through the Yamaha tec. and you will find all the info you need on here.

Cheers Gav.

I believe the reference is to this Forum: Yamaha tech - it has a load of info about such things, incl one or two threads about the tenere :rolleyes2:

Suggestion: use the search function for "tenere" and see what comes up, or just scroll back through the threads in here - nothing is ever deleted.

Cheers Gav.
