Hi All

I am currently setting a tenere 3aj up for a transafrican sprint next year, i have been looking around but can't seem to find any info on an enlarged tank for the 3aj.

Does anyone know of something??

Cheers Peter

Never saw a bigger tank for 3aj. How big do you need it to be? Maybe it's somehow possible to fit a tank from the first model tenere - i think it's 30 liters? But I don´t know if it will fit?

Hi,

I believe the original Tenere had a 28 ltr tank, and the 3AJ a 23 ltr tank.
Like AnderZen, I don't know if it would fit, and I have not seen an aftermarket larger tank offered for the 3AJ.

I believe some travellers have fitted a rear auxillery tank, but I do not have any details. I would think this type of addition would be a universal fitting, and perhaps a search on the other model forums might give some details?

Good luck,
Geoff

I have seen a kitfor the 660 tenere, it had a bigger tank plus two aux. tanks created into the side covers, it held altogether sumthin cazy like +/-50l. It does not fit the 3aj cause the air intake is in the way.

Anyways cheers for the relies

Hey Peter

The 5lt difference between the 1VJ 28lt tank and the 3AJ 23lt is due to the 3AJ airbox - which is located under the tank. Because of this the 3AJ tank has the same outside dimensions as the 1VJ (and will fit the mountings, but won't fit over the airbox), but its capacity is smaller due to the airbox.

Erm, hope that makes sense.

I would follow the KISS principle - do you really need a bigger tank? What parts of your route demand greater fuel range? Can you just use a locally-sourced jerrycan or similar - pick it up when you need to?

Custom-made auxilliary tanks are a pain in the arse to use and build unless you're good with that sort of thing or buy a good aftermarket jobbie. Even then they are a nuisance.

Nomad tanks in Australia also do a range of auxilary tanks Here's a link.
Nomad Tanks

My friend has one of these. I got a tourtank from the USA but the safari tanks are better in my opinion. But saying that auxilary tanks are still a pain and take up precious luggage space.

Hi Pete,

Bro,i may have a solution for you!

I have some specially made racks that take 2x 10l jerry cans.(1 can either side) these should bolt straight onto your bike, they sit nice and low (bash plate levelP so they dont affect the centre of gravity too much.

The question is doo you need so much fuel? are yoy crossing the Sahara? what does your route look like? Bear in mind extra fuel means extra weight, which on a trip of this nature is crucial!!

I have a mate that has GOS co-ords for ALL the fuel stops in africa, formal ands informal. This info is vital to route planning.

Youve got my details give me a buzz and you can check out those racks, i can then also hook you up with those details.

What i strongly recommend is that you join us when we go riding in the Atlantis due field, this will give you a very good idea of what the desert has install for you, and once you've been there you will see why all the fuss is made about weight. These big bikes are a handfull in sand even unladen.

Well the invitation stands give me a call, also we look forward to you joining us on some of the Cape XT Club trips.

All the best

Chris
