Automatic carb adjustment for altitude - MkII 3AJ

Hi

I've seen previous posts referring to automatic carb adjustment for altitude fitted to 3AJs.

Is this just MkIIs or MkI's as well? Is this something you can buy and fit to earlier models that didn't include it as standard?

How does it work? Is it really that effective or just a gimmick? Is there a maximum altitude or other limitations?

Lastly, just what does this thing look like anyway? How do I know if I've got one?

Cheers

this altitude corrector was -as far as i known- only fitted to MkII 3AJ and to the switzerland version.
you can buy it from yamaha but it will fit only to this special version of the teikei Y27PV carb.
this carb has two additional air channels to which the corrector is connected by tubes.
the working principle is simple: inside the corrector housing a valve is closed by normal atmospheric pressure.
when reaching an altitude of appr. 900 m above sea level the valve opens and hence leads additional air to
the carb, preventing the fuel-air mix to become too rich.
