arrow exhaust for sale for xt-600

not sure if this it the place for this post, but couldn't find anywhere better on horizons.

i am selling the end section of an arrow exhaust that i got with my 3AJ. it is in good nick, i am selling it because i had to get a standard exhaust to get my MOT - my inspector was a stickler... £100 and it's yours.

i am based in london, south west.

ciao

Don't sell it! Now that you've got the vital ticket refit it. Put the legal pipe in the garage / cupboard, ready to get out for next year.

I'll even rent the legal pipe off you when it's time for my MOT!

I also have the Arrow PD pipe and it's a really really good exhaust mate. Don't leave the legal one on!

Does this mean that an XT600 with an arrow exhaust is going to be trouble to MOT. Aren't the Arrows silencers road legal and if not what is the best road legal alternative? I note that Lazer make a road legal version has anyone tried it?
I don't want to sound like a conformist wimp but I have a greater desire to
A. Fly under radar where the police are concerned.
B. To avoid aggravation and expense caused by failing MOTs and/or being given tickets for a "dodgy exhaust".

As far as I know, none of the Arrow exhausts are road legal in the UK. This is because Arrow Racing Products (to give them their full name) design the pipe for the bike, not the regulations. I think the expense and hassle of getting EU certification and a kite mark also puts the price up...

...but this shouldn't put you off. I had to decide about 6 months ago which pipe to go for, as the hole in my OE silencer was big enough to affect the running of the bike and had already been welded once.

In retrospect I'm glad I didn't go for the Lazer ProDuro, which is basically your other option with an XT. You should search for Lazer / Laser and think carefully before buying one, as I know of at least one user here who has had trouble fitting the pipe, and another whose silencer destroyed his rear brake caliper. The clearance doesn't seem to be there - a **major** design oversight.

Re: the Arrow pipe, you get really good increases in power and torque with (it seems to me) no zone of reduced performance. The best thing about the pipes is that they are so well-constructed though. They are fully serviceale and also repackable, in case they are a bit loud out-of-the-box. I was informed that I could repack the pipe to be easily quiet enough for EU regs - it's the damn markings that cause the problem.

I will be putting the original back on for the MOT - a 5 minute job. I will then replace the Arrow as soon as I get home. I don't think you'll have any problems with the Arrow in the UK; I have been stopped by a Met policeman in Central London for a check-over since I had mine, and he didn't bat an eyelid. It would only become an issue if you were riding like an idiot, had a tiny numberplate, had no brake lights AND had the pipe, if you know what I mean.

Mine has also saved me from running 5/6 people over while filtering and has also alerted countless other (dozy) drivers of my prescence. A good thing? Definitely.

I've had an arrow pipe on my bike for three years and got three straight MOT's with it on the bike. I even stopped a policeman to ask about my new plate (to check if it was the right size) and he checked over the bike and said nothing!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
