Africa on a xt660z Terene

Hi

I want to do a trip in africa. It will be +-15000km over some rugget terrain. I'm consedering either the xt660z Terene or the xl700v Transalp. Have anybody done such a long trip on the Yamaha, cause I dont realy know to much about it. The clips on youtube looks cool but you don't want to sit in the middle of Zambia and realize you have the wrong bike for the job at hand.

Can anyone maybe tell me what is the max load it can carry and the dry weight? Yamaha's website does not have that info.

Thanks

Hi, did almost 10K miles on my 09 Tenere last year including a fair amount of off roading. rear pads wore down at 7K andalso changed cush drive at the same time. It is surprisingly good off road. for your trip i can not think of a better bike. Andy B

I met an ex-pat Pom in Agadez 2 years ago who was travelling on his '84(??) Tenere. He got that thing well off the beaten track into the Tenere desert (met him there again) without much trouble. He did tell me it shat itself in Morocco many miles later but he did buy it for like 100 euro in Ghana. Full usage in the sand was his major concern.
