Adding an electric starter to a 1VJ

I am thinking about adding an electric starter to a 1VJ, the Swedish version does not have one as standard.

Is it possible?

Drive safe!

Cool!

I just wanted to make sure ´cause I´m thinking about buying one that hasn´t got a starter on it.

Thanx,`"I´ll be back"

I´m back,

I´m a little comfused, my girlfriend has an 1VJ with both Kick and El-starter - it´s an 1VJ as well (bought i Germany) 1VJ 001100. (Blue/yellow).

The 1VJ I´m buying now is 1VJ 003633 an it has only a Kickstart. (Blue/white)
It has had a "new" engine installed, but the new one had an engine number wich starts with 1VJ as well.

Both are 1986´s.

Could someone explain this?

does the engine have the housing to fit the e-starter (crankcase left side)?

Hi, again.

Yes! I found the old generator casing wich was obviously left over from the enginge-rebuild they made on it 2years ago.

It also included the drive shaft and various sprockets to go in the transmission from starter to the crankshaft sprocket.

One thing though, they have fitted an 3AJ left-side engine crankcase half, does it have the fitting to mount the transmission sprocket-axle from starter to crankshaft?

I will check...

Bye!

yes.

add:
make sure you have the e-start version of crankshaft (left side shaft is longer to hold the gear and one-way assy).

Hi,

I found the specs of the engine rebuild, It says the "new" crankshaft fitted has the p/n 1VJ-11400-01.

Is that the right one?

(I very much appreciate all the help I´m getting, thanx a lot!)

KlausXT600 27 Mar 2003 01:13

yes, this is the right one.
go ahead!

Great! I´ll get tinkering right away...

Does anyone happen to know where I can get my hands on a schematic of how to put this together correctly.

My Clymer does not cover the Ténéré.

I don´t want to turn a spacer the wrong way and ending up with another engine-rebuild.

Rikard,

Hi, you have an email. Hope it helps?

Hi,

I just got my "new" 1VJ home and was greatly disappointed.

When I removed the left hand alternator casing to fit the sprockets for the starter-to-crankshaft coupling I discovered that the left side crankcase half (the 3AJ-one) did not have any accomodation to fit the sprockets (no holes).

The left crankcase half has p/n 3AJ 15100-00.

You win some, and you lose some...

Thanks anyway.

this is strange.
could you please tell me at which location you found the p/n 3AJ 15100-00?

klaus

The P/N appears on the specification from the workshop that rebuilt the engine.
