adding a kickstart on the TT600E

hi all

just bought a TT electric. does anyone know if its possible to add a kickstarter to this bike? ive seen the cap where is usually goes. it can be peeled off... but are there any gears?

would be better to have, just in case the electrics fail or battery goes wonker.

thanks and hope you can help.

Yes

If your engine is the one with the cap that can be peeled off. You´ll need a lot of small parts, an additional idler gear that goes onto the primary gearbox shaft etc.
Best to get everything from an old engine, then there´s just some small parts you have to buy new.
To find out which parts you need best to check exploded views. Maybe kedo.com has complete sets.
Do not forget the steel reinforcement ring on the inside of the clutch cover and the decompression mechanism.

Steel reinforcment ring

Hi Auke,

I am intrigued by the steel reinforcement ring that you refer to. Can you direct me to a picture that shows it and it’s part number?

I retro fitted a kick start to a 3AJ and a 1991 XT600E a few years ago, but wasn’t aware of this part. I don’t remember there being a gap between the seal that replaces the plug in the right engine case, and the case itself that this part should have located in. Can you explain how it locates? I am about to transfer the kick-start from my old 3AJ to its replacement.

I didn’t bother fitting the decompressor components on either of our bikes, and had no problem kick starting them. I would suggest that for an occasional back up it isn’t necessary, unless you are quite light.

part #5Y1-15645-00-00 ?

Hi.

Auke,do you mean the shim ring(#5Y1-15645-00-00)that sits in side the cover?

Im transfering the kickstarter from my old 1VJ to a 3TB and you have me a bit confused with the reinforcement ring :confused1:

Yep

It´s 5y1-15645-00, purpose is reinforcement of the area where the kickstartshaft passes through the clutch cover.
