acerbis tank question

I’ve just got my Acerbis tank, it’s not fitted yet, just like all the other mods it’s on the I’ll do it tomorrow list. I was looking at the petrol tap and how it connects on the tank, just two self tapers into the plastic. The tap has a small rubber O ring which I guess is the gasket sitting in a little recess on the tap.

I’m wondering if this is the best fitting solution or do people improve the seal in-between the tap and tank, with a very thin petrol resistant rubber shim. Also the self taping screws that hold the tap on, would it be better to place a very small drop of silicon on the thread.

It just looks like a week point, or am I just being paranoid?

Shaun

As long as the O-ring is new you should'nt have any problems but don't be tempted to overthghten the screws. These don't need any locking stuff(Acerbis would supply it if they did) as the cutting action into the plastic "grips" the screws anyway. If you do use a secondary rubber gasket you'll find the tap lugs will distort as the gasket squashes and it'll leak!

I'd just fit it as suggested, I did and I've had no leakage problems. You might void any warranty by mucking around with it.
