Acerbis tank

So just fitted my acerbis tank and not very happy the way it bashes off the side of the cylinder head, any one else had this problem?...might have to re design some brackets for better support and attatch them to the front of the frame instead of the long bar that came with it.... had a lot of trouble squeezing the tank together to make the bar fit.....or fit some rubber pieces to the tank to protect it from rattling around.....

Hi, fitted one to my sons xt600e 02 with no problems, i attach a photo of his so you can make a visual check that you have the correct tank.

Mine didn't kock or wobble either..

Are you sure you haven't knocked off the rubbers on the frame which it slots onto. If I remember correctly.

Does it have a brace bar at the bottom too ???

The rubbers are on and the brace across the bottom is fitted and its now full of fuel and seems quite stable now but I might make a support bracket to bolt it to the frame for added security.......

I wouldn't worry. These tanks are pretty flexible. Mine took many a bounce and a 70mph smash with no damage but some gravel rash.

I also have one on my '03 XT600e and have found no problems. Make sure you have the bottom brace on though, without it the tank can move about a bit.

Hi, I realise this is an old thread but hopefully you guys can help me out.

I've managed to get hold of a 2nd hand acerbis tank for my 2002 xt600e, but it hasn't come with any fitting kit.

Do you know where I can get hold of the bracing bar? Also will the tank fit the standard mounts or do I need other bits?

Is there a fuel line coupling I need for both taps?

Thanks.

I have a brace bar somewhere in my kit off my bike I left in Mongolia, you can have it if you like?

I'm in london, so if you can get here. Let me know and I'll dig it out...

It mounts just like the stock tank. You need a "T" or ""Y" piece to gather the 2 fuellines into one, so you can use both petcocks.

The bracing bar is nothing special, and is just a flat piece of steel with two holes in it, so nothing fancy.

Thanks Jens. That's really useful information.

Acerbis tank taps

On the same subject of the xt600 Acerbis tank - has any one else had problems with the taps slowly seeping air in to the fuel lines?

I say "air" in rather than "leaking" because its such a small amount of fuel coming out that it evaporates before it can form a drip but given long enough there is so much air in the line it cuts off the supply!

I took apart the taps, polished the mating surface to a mirror finish, filled them with a thick fuel lube and RTV sealed the joint between the tank and the tap....... still happening!

Other info - tank is full and the fuel lines are new (twice - that was my first thought!)

I'm guessing/hoping this is a feature rather than a fault?
