accidents

hello,

and again a friend of mine had an accident, this time it is Klaus Mechelke. Yes, he is the xt-expert moderating this forum.

He had an accident on his bike, near the German city of Braunschweig, and he broke both legs. But he should leave hospital today. This is all I know at the moment.

In March my *Supremebrother* Simon Milward died in Mali/Westafrica, just some days ago I read that my friend Camilo Delgado HUCommunity Medellin Colombia died in July taking part in a rally.

But Klaus should be ok, I hope. More news about him later.

hello,

me again, just talked to Klaus on the phone.

The accident happend as Klaus was guiding a group back to Hamburg after they had been on a motorcycle travellers meeting in Gieboldehausen in Germany. Klaus looked for a moment too long on his map and as he looked up again he was about to hit an oncoming car. He tried to jump off, but did not make it anymore.

After the accident he was taken to hospital with a helicopter. He was in hospital for two weeks and could leave in a wheelchair today. Maybe another couple of weeks and the doctors are taking the screws out. In six weeks or so he should ride again.

Here is his telephone number, in case you want to talk to him.

0049 4173 486

or his email

Klaus helped me so much on my journey, but I am more than 1000kms away. So if there is somebody near Hamburg, please phone Klaus and ask him if he needs anything.

His bike, a XT600Z Tenere 1VJ, is junk. But he said he still got another bike in his garage.

More later

Mika

It's very good to hear that Klaus will recover.

This is a reminder that even the good riders can get in trouble.

Be careful out there friends, none of us likes to read these threads.

Hope you get well and back onto two wheels very soon Klaus, I don't post very much but have had much useful info from Klaus's posts and others and it's been instrumental in my brothers " Fish" being in Uzbekistan now on a RTW with his XT. Get well soon. Russ.

That hurts, bones brakes so easally, though it seems to be a serious accident and suffering for Klaus, its good he didn't get paralysed or killed.
Take care,

Matt

Best wishes Klaus. Perhaps there are some modifications you could do to your wheelchair if you get bored.
