98 xt600e swingarm bolt tight
 

Hi,

I have completely taken apart my xt600 to do a powder coat on the frame and swingarm. I have also ordered brand new bearings, bushes and seals for the main bolt.

Now I have put everything back together with the new parts, but the main swing arm bolt that goes through the engine casing is tight. I can't get it through all the way out of the back and then it is very tight.

I have measured the bearing casings through which the bolt passes, and they do not align perfectly and the same thing happens even with the old bearings and bushes.

I wanted to know if this normal or something to worry about and if the heat used with powder coating can warp the swing arm.

Are you using OE bearing/bushing ? i have done the same as you and had no problem so i dont think the powder coating is a problem. did you use a G-clamp so you can push the bearing in straight with out doing damage to anything ? if you take the swing arm out the bolt should go in smooth. if it does try loosening the engine mounts so you can wigle everything that should help.

Thanks for the reply. The parts are all original Yamaha. I have only replaced the bearings, seals and teflon bushes. I used a block of wood and sockets to tap the parts into place but the bearing housings on the swingarm itself are not aligned. I have not checked if the same thing happens before I sent the parts for powder coating but if the heat won't warp it then something else went wrong.

I have not tried fitting the swing arm with the engine in the frame, but out of the frame the swingarm bolt will not go all the way through. You have to force it through with the help of a hammer and then you cannot turn it with your hand.

At least now I know its supposed to go through both bearing housings with no problem. I'll just try and fit it with the engine in the frame and see what happens.

if the bearings went in ok then the swingarm is ok i think . if you have just drifted the bearing in with a block an hammer then they might not be in straight even buy i very small amout.
