93 XT350 running problems
I am hoping someone can help me out. i have a 93 XT 350 in which I can get started with choke fully out. It runs at high rpms, but when I take the choke off the bike dies. When I start it again on full choke, I can back the choke off to about half way and it runs about 2500 rpms, but pops and backfires. When it idles at this rpms the revs go up and down still popping and backfiring. No matter how long I run it it will not idle with the choke off.
Just curious if anyone has had this problem? If so, how did you solve it? Can it be the mixture screw that needs to be adjusted. I am wary of doing this since they seem to say it was set in the factory 17 years ago. The bike did sit in the summer in a barn and somehow all the fuel either evaporated or drained out. I am open to any and all suggestions! Thanks for your help! |

idle speed and mixture
In this case, I think you should start with fresh petrol. Then there are 2 items to adjust / check;
- Idle speed, the large screw somewhere at the bottom of the carb. Maybe speed set too low? - Idle mix - the factory setting is nice for new engines and to pass environmental laws. However, if you want an older bike to start and run well you'll have to adjust it as per my numerous other posts. If all the above does not work, you'll have to clean the carb. Auke |
