89' XT600 bargain?

Hello! I call upon your superior knowledge as I know nothing about XT's, but I've stumbled across a very tidy and shiny XT600 on an F plate (89/90?), kickstart only, 23,500 miles for about £1200. Decent price do you think? or run away quickly? Anything I would need to look at if I was seriously interested? Any help would be appreciated!
Many thanks,
Tim xx

Personally I'd be looking to pay less than a grand for it - unless it's a minter.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the milage as it may not be accurate.

Mmmm............

Cheers folks! It does look in exceptionally good nick, the rims look almost new and even has things like the footrest pivots greased so I guess its been looked after. Only flaking paint on the engine gives the age away. I did think £1200 was a bit much really for that age......... Decisions, decisions...... Does anyone have this exact same model?

I bought my 2002 E model, 9000 miles and good condition, (no obvious off road use) with a stainless steel exhaust fitted in Feb this year for £1700. That said, condition is much more important than age.

I'd expect a very tidy example of anything older than 8 years to sell for around £1,000, and not decrease in value. If it was mine, and I couldn't get £1,000 for it, I'd keep it.

If he's asking £1200, he'll expect to have to barter, especialy if he can't prove the servicing has been regular and complete. Nobody ever asks for the price they can afford to sell for, but what they might be able to get for it.

If it's in MINT condition then it's worth paying over the odds for and sounds a reasonable price. However 23,000 isn't low milage (it's not high either for an XT which will go forever if looked after, in terms of services). I procured my 1999 XT600E on a T plate in January this year for £1,600. It's only done 5,000 miles and is in MINT condition. The comment above re condition is more important than age is spot on, it's worth paying more than the book price for a well looked after example. You simply won't find a better "BANG FOR BUCKS" bike anywhere and thats a fact...

I paid £1800 for a mint condition 1990 XT600Z Tenere type 3AJ with twin headlights. I specifically wanted this model, and this was the only one I could find in such good condition and I was happy to pay what I did to obtain it. It all depends on what you want and how much you are prepared to pay to get it. When it comes to these bikes, book value means nothing.
