Thumbs up The 84 XT600 has a new life!

I just completed a rebuild on a 1984 XT600 and wanted to share some build photos. I'm new to posting pictures, so bear with me as I fumble through it...

This is how I received her...a bit rough, but I see POTENTIAL!

I started stripping her down right away...

Cracked the side case to remove the clutch basket that had a broken tab..

New Frame Paint... I like the Blue and Black colors over the Red and white.

Frame Painting done...New front fender from a YZ250

New rear fender from a YZ250 as well...cut down a bit to fit the skinny rear.

The Head was NASTY dirty...This was AFTER I cleaned it. The rest was removed with a grinder and sanding discs.

Piston didn't look too bad, so I left well enough alone and replaced the rings only. New Timing chain as well just to be safe...No pic...sorry.

Another shot of the head, rocker assembly, and bottom of engine.

Can you say SHINY!!!

Another shot of the newly rebuilt engine and fresh paint!

Another gratuitous engine porn shot...

She's getting there...Newer rims/tires/freah engine rebuild/paint...

My Makeshift paintbooth...

New Seat cover...

Nice and shiney new Paint!!

New headlight fainring and fresh paint.

From this...

To this!!!

And.......She's done! Well, almost. I have a few odds and ends to wrap up, but not bad. I love the newer colors.

I'll post final pics once my stickers come in.

looks great always nice to see a bike brought back from the brink it could have been so easy to let it become a field bike which would have been thrashed and trashed to destruction.

Thanks Gents. It was a fun build. Now I'm looking for a new project...can't sit still. I have about $600 in parts in it and the bike cost me $1

Rob,
I used a pathat's similiar to powdercoat. You spray it on, then bake it, or run the engine to cure it. In my case, I baked the head and cylinder, and ran the bike to cure the bottom case. It was really easy, the hardest part was removing all the nasty built up crap prepping it for paint.

Tenere Tom...I happen to like the silver myself.
