3ja fuel pump removal

Hi

I think the fuel pump in my bike has gone futt. The float bowl is dry though there is fuel in the tank at the reserve level.

I see in an other post thta it can be discarded . How do I do this and how should I replumb the fuel system. Will I loose the ability to use the lower quarter of the fuel tank if I removed it?

Might be broke, but first try this: (messy job) try blowing the fuel trough the lines and the pump to the bowl. So loosen hose, blow, put back hose, fill up, loosen, blow etc. If the bike starts and the pump is ok it will start pumping again.

If not, and you want to remove the pump, just plumb a hose form the T-piece under the carb directly to the carb.

It means that you loose quite a lot of effective tank capacity however.

i don't know about which bike we are talking here, but if its 1VJ or 3AJ my experience is that without fuelpump you will loose about 0.5 l of capacity.
you may try yourself:
connect tank and carb directly as described in previous posting.
open fuel tap and carb bowl drainage screw (put drainage hose to a jerrycan).
put bike in upright position.
wait until drainage stopps and determine remaining fuel in tank.

best regards

Hi Klaus is a 3AJ but the wife has a 1AJ and I would like to remove the pumps off both as I think they are a weakness to the design. Pic attached:

I by passed the XT fuel pump on the weekend, its probaly the easiest fix Ive ever done disconnect 2 tubes reconnect one. The bike works a traet. When it runs low of fuels I will do as Klaus recommends and find out how much capacity I have lost. Thanks
