3AJ - What version?

I understand that there are 2 versions of the 3AJ motor. (MK1 and MK2?) How do I tell which version is which?

I need to know how to tell the difference between a 3AJ-1 and a 3AJ-2 motor.

Could somebody tell me how I would be able to tell this by looking at the engine number?

Thanks

I have an 89 3AJ with a grey engine casing, my wifes 89 1VJ has a black casing and 88 3AJs had black casings . All the casings have magnesium writen on them so its colour differences on the lkater models only from the outside.

The mk2 has a longer oil cooler. This is (I think) the simplest way of telling them apart...
