3AJ - Laser Exhaust problem

Hi, I'm a new joiner to this forum. It has taken me a long time to find you. I'm another 3AJ Tenere owner from SW London - 1988 Blue/Yellow imported from Italy.

Does anybody have any knowledge of fitting a Laser ProDuro exhaust to the Tenere 3AJ? I bought this system and the connector pipe (#4034) does not allow the silencer to be fitted correctly. The UK distributor has been helpful and supplied the other Yamaha connector pipe (#4060) which we thought would fit, but does not. The Laser site shows this model and the first system as the one for the bike. The frame and old OEM exhaust shows 3AJ, and I have seen another 3AJ which is the same in every way to mine (and has a Micron which routes much higher). This looks to be a Laser problem, but does anybody have any information that may help?
Thanks, Geoff

ps. I saw the following statement on an earlier post: "The MK2 version of the 3AJ has a longer oil cooler (about 30 cm)". Does anybody have information about the Mk1 - Mk2 (Mk3?..) differencies? And how I can tell which mark my Tenere is? Fyi, this link shows my 3AJ - I hate the Yellow front brake cover:

Hello!

Another blue / yellow XT in London - the clan grows!

This is my bike :

http://www.visordown.com/forums/atta...&postid=823660

As you can see, the header pipes aren't standard, going 2-1 as they pass the engine. Some bikes seem to stay 2-2 all the way to the connector pipe.

Let me know if you still have problems with the exhaust - you should have bought an Arrow one anyway! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

My bike has a set of Acerbis plastic disk guards in white (rear/front + fork guard). Maybe you can get some of those...

E-mail me for more info / better pics.

Hi POB/London,
Thanks for the info, I will send you an email as I'm interested in your bike, etc...

Regarding the Exhaust, I tried to find a street legal aftermarket SS exhaust with some difficulty and Laser ProDuro was the only one I came up with. Micron no longer make their one for our model, others only produce Off-road versions, etc... I cannot recall if I tried Arrow.

Regarding Laser, I am impressed by the manufacturing quality (if only it would fit my bike!). Their technical guru in Holland is now looking at the various photos I have supplied, etc.. and hopefully will come up with an answer.

I will post the outcome. If anybody has any information on this exhaust or the different Marks of the 3AJ, please post it or email me.
Thanks, Geoff

Hi Geoff -
I have a 3AJ (in Bristol) with a Laser produro exhaust fitted - I can get some photos e-mailed to you if that would help?

Cheers
Neil

Found a close-up of a German XT with a Produro too, and the connector pipe seems a little odd to me.

Have you established that yours are the original headers? Will email you the pic later.

Lewis

Hi Neil & Lewis,

Appreciate your help. Yes I would be very interested in the photos - thanks.

I believe the headers to be OEM. They certainly met the OEM silencer at the correct point, so I am sure the connection point is true. I have a number of photos - please email me if you would like to see a couple of pertinent ones - I thought it best not to flood you, and I have not been able to upload them to any web-space to provide links.
