3AJ Headlight Question

My 3AJ doesn't have the dual round headlights, it looks more like the 1VJ models, but it has the lower front mud guard...and the rear plastic is 3AJ style...did 3AJ's come like this? I'm just trying to figure out if it is original or if it has been modified...Thanks

well, as far as i know... 3AJ = twin headlight

3ds

It's probably a 3DS, which is the 3AJ modified for Switzerland. Check the framenumber, if it starts with 3DS iso 3AJ I'm right :-).
Apart from the headlight there were some mods with respect to the 3AJ to have it comply with the then more strict Swiss environmental reqs - detuned engine, some mods to the exhaust. And, some minor chnages to the electrical system, obviously also related to the headlight.
Most 3ds's outside Switzerland have since been 3AJ-ed, so different needles, jets, hacksaw to the spark arrestor etc.

Hi,

The wiring diagram I have for a 1988 XT600Z Tenere (e.g. my 1988 Series 1 3AJ) also shows the model available with a single headlight configuration for two European countries (N & CH - Holland & Switzerland).

All the other countries show a twin headlight configuration, although again there are two formats:
- one side-light bulb; one headlight for main beam only; the other headlight for the dipped beam only.
- two side-light bulbs; both headlights operating together, either in dip or main beams.

I guess there are three different sub-harnesses to the 'cockpit'? If your 3AJ is modified, I guess you should see some modification to the wiring harness?

Ciao,
Geoff
