Renthal sprockets

Hi all !

Just been changing the sprockets and chain on my '03 xt600. Got the front nut off okay (although I was expecting trouble), however, when I went to fit the replacement Renthal sprocket it appears too deep and doesnt leave much thread for the tab washer and nut to fit on. The renthal part number is 342-520-15. Has anyone had any experience of these sprockets or even has the correct part number to hand ?

Thanks ! Bill

Update

Looking at their website it appears that part number 342-520-15 is the correct sprocket for a 2003 xt 600e. Anyone any ideas ?

I've had Jt sprockets that needed a little tap with a socket to go on fully, making the sprocket go another couple of milimeters onto the shaft.

I know it seems simple, but its worth a shot, only you can tell if the sprocket is fully seated.

Hi Jens !

Thanks for the reply. According to the parts manual the 2003 xt should have a sprocket thats 15.6mm deep. The renthal one i've bought is this deep, so it appears its right for the bike. The one i've taken off is 9mm deep and according to information off the net is usually found on '83 xt600's. I will do as you suggest and see if there is a few more mm's to play with.

Another update !

Had a better look at this shaft that the sprocket slides onto and found a spacer that I didnt notice in the erm....failing light..... yesterday. Removing this allows fitment of the deeper sprocket. Didnt notice anything about this in the parts manual. This info maybe of help to someone else in the future.

JT list the thinner 9.6 mm sprocket for the later bikes- 99/03, I think.

But a spacer may be required with that.

When I tried to change the sprocket on my 91 XT it needed the thinner sprocket, but I didn't think to check to see if there was a spacer, I just ground the already purchased 15.6 mm one down to 9.6 mm, but now I will check - alternative sprocket sizes are scarce in the 9.6 mm thickness.
