Ah, excellent. I was wondering what my next bike was going to be! !)

Matt :)

Matt Cartney 14 Jul 2007 21:22

Although, it will only be great if they make it properly. Good bash plate, proper big tank, good suspension, good wheels etc. There is a chance it will be a bit of a 'cosmetic' adventure bike.

Lets hope they can resist the urge to save a few quid and produce something really good.

Yep, it's gotta be the real deal to have the Tenere name. Hopefully the gearbox is ok, my friend has a Yamaha quad dealership, and he's forever repairing the gearboxes on Raptors and Rhinos, both 660 and 700 models. Does the new 660 have the same woes?

If it's gonna be the real thing though, I'll be clearing an XT size hole in the shed!

Theres a risk they will just use the tenere name to cash in.

The 660R was a poor replacement for the XT600 and basically a cheap commuter with no thought for overlanding or adventure.

I hope they dont just take the 660R and put a big tank on it and some flashy paint.

Something to really challenge the KTM 640 adventure is what we want.

It certainly dents easily at low speeds - as I proved on a dealer test-ride.:oops2:

What does ? The new tenere ? you've ridden one ?

Walkabout 15 Jul 2007 17:57

Now you really are excited Ted! The thread has moved on to the XT660R is how I read it :rolleyes2:

Cheers

Sagarmatha1000 15 Jul 2007 19:14

Yeah. I put a grand's damage into an XT660R on a test ride.

'twas me own fault: road-biassed usage of the front brake washed it out whilst on beach shingle. It was only after that (and the broken bone in my hand healed) that I started riding trials.

1991-1999 Tenere BYRD Rallye parts

hi all
yes this new 2008 tenere does look the goods for sure..however for all of those that have the xtz660 from 1991 to 1999.. i do have in my posetion some genuine (brand new) BYRD parts. I had purchased them (after a long search) to do a trip through the Australian outback only to have the trip cancelled. the parts i have are,

BYRD rear side tanks aprox 6-7 litres each
BYRD front bash plate water tank, about 3 litres
BYRD rear Rallye guard

All of these are paintable and to my knowkedge have not been used.

If anyone is interested email me at
Troybell37@msn.com

Yes, please...

We think that even this new Ténéré might be a 'ghost'.
But we're still hoping for the best....
Just like we did on the "new super tenere 1000" a few years ago.

And:
tas74t; You've got mail..:D
