1vj: Oil in the sator housing- good or bad?

Another dumb question.

Xt600 1VJ not charging properly, and although puling like a train and showing a charge of 13.5v across the battery when running I am convinced she is not charging, or something is not right.

I removed the left (port side) sator housing cover, and out came all the "engine blood" which I expected.

But then I thought about it, surely there shouldnt be oil in the sator housing unit. Oil conducts electricity this would negate the effect of an alternator/magneto-sator electro magnet charger thinggy.

Anyone, am I loosing the plot or is this to be expected?

Also the sator has two large coils these looked to be wrapped in a black insulating cloth, is this normal, cos it sort of looks corroded, but not really?

Upon examining the sator I noticed that one of the wires connected to a coil had broken off, so I soldered an extension on, heat shrunk it and then soldered it back on. Is this a ludicrous thing to do?

Lastly the screws holding the sator onto the plate are an absolute bugger to remove, is this normal?

Cheers G

P.S. last thing to do to the bike (after winter) is to get a new output shaft installed and a rebore, oversize cylinder and rings installed, woohoo, another £400 to go!

I'm not sure about the rest, but I do know that some oil in the stator housing is normal (says so in the manual). Unless it's about half a quart or something obscene, you should be alright in that respect.

Oil insulates

Oil insulates, it does not conduct.
