1vj gaskets tenere

hi , bout to replace head gasket and i tend to be a little heavy handed , having rung threads before, i was wondering if anyone has tips for safer loosening and tightning of bolts ? cheers jerry .

loosening is not a problem, but tightening bolts like engine, head and so on, require a torque key... between 50 and 100 euro, but you will be sure that everything is done in the proper way.

XT GIRL yes you are IVJ bolt experts...cracking them that is xD

Now to the point... As said before, you better get a torque wrench, it is the best way to do those things and do follow the instructions on the workshop manual ( it has the torque for each bolt and nut ).

fekn ballbags !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes ill have to invest in a torque wrench but first i need to weld a crow bar onto head cover decompression bolt (the one that holds the cable clamp ) as its decided not to play . Like a great hastey eeedgit i have taken a hacksaw to the allen bolt as it has rounded out and cut a groove thru it for screwdrivers , t-bars and the like but now at stage where i need a welder . I was wondering, again, if applying a little heat to bolt would help loosen it up or would this soften metal and shear ? cheers . san migel an chin rubs .

bacardi23 2 Aug 2008 19:38

no, heat will only expand the the metal making it even more harder to come loose...

What do you mean with it not having any play? are you sure the cable has simply broken?
about that welding...I don't know anything about aluminum welding YET :P
