1989 XT600 Head ports
Hi there,
I have been decoking the head of my bike and as the gunge has thinned i have found that there are things that look like two copper washers squashed together in the exhaust ports. They are very much in the same position that your average copper washer would be. I have never done this job before so i'm not sure what should be there. I suppose i expected to clean the dirt off to reveal a smooth aluminium surface. It really does look like someone has just put in a fresh copper washer and not bothered to take out the old one. So my question would be - should there be something in an exhaust port that looks like two copper washers squashed flat together? If anyone has a picture of an exhaust port on a clean head i would be very interested to see it. Cheers. |

yep sounds like the old exhaust gasket to me the original gaskets are copper wraped around an asbestos type material and you will find that what you have in there is one gasket not two copper washers squished together.
