1987-1989 XT600 with rear disc brake
I could be wrong but I thought rear disc brake was introduced to XT600s from 1987 onwards. I noticed that XT600s manufactured between 1987-1989 posted for sale in USA have rear drum brakes and some sellers confirmed manufacturing date within the 3 years. 1990 models onwards posted for sale here all have rear disc brake. Was rear disc brake introduced much later in XT600s exported to USA when compared to the rest of the world? I am looking for a 1987-1989 XT600 with kickstart and rear disc brake. Any info would be great. Thanks. Cheers, Tom.

my 89 has drum brake
my '89 xt600w has a drum brake in the rear. I wish it didn't but it's probably not worth the trouble to install disk. I'm from oregon, usa.

83-89 Clymer manual I have makes no mention of rear disk brake. My '88 has rear drum.

Check these sites
They are in German but the photos showed rear disc brake as well as the barely comprehensible altavista babelfish translation.

my guess is, the european version gets disc earlier and we wait with the drum a couple more years here in the us.
