Hi all.

I want this one. But should I? If this is a good year for Teneres, what must I pay attention to if I want to buy it?

Hi there.

I have one and I like it, but you better be prepared to get your hands dirty once in a while.
The weak spot is overheating problem due to the tank design, it covers the engine and prevents the air from cooling it.
How ever there are some things you can do to improve air flow.Drill holes in the front mud guard or change to a low mounted one.
The air filter box sucks air from two intakes ontop of the engine under the tank(not very smart on a hot summer day) block them and remove the lid to the air filter and trow it away. now your engine can breath easy and the intake air temp will be much lower.
I all so recomend a good foam filter insted of the original paper thing.
Next thing that you shuld make sure is that the oil pump does it´s job properly( that cylinder head needs every bit of oil it can get) there are diffrent capacity oil pumps(from newer models, but they fit older ones as well). If you are planning long jurneys with loads of packing it might be a good idea to upgrade to one with higher capacity.
Like many XT models the fifth gear can be a problem, it has a tendancy to get chiped.Mods are awailable that can solve the problem if it accures, to prevent it from happening don´t "load" the transmission in fifth gear,a change of sproket ratio will allso help.

brgd.
