1 Attachment(s)
be here and knew to xt600 as today I got a xt 600 1983 in trade it needs help 28xxx miles motor has been rebuilt never installed. But it's missing alot motor mounts, bolts, side covers, plastics, exhaust doesn't look correct, carb looks shot. Still trying to figure out what else is missing. How many years do the parts go up or down. will any of those parts from the tt600 or any other bikes work. I'm hoping to not have to spend a ton of money and making this cheap as I can for now once I sell my ninja the money will kick back, I would love to get her up and running soon. Any help would be appreciated.

Where are your? What country are you in? How much are your wanting to spend? what is the out come of the build? touring, weekend bash, re-sell or far horizons?

When you say the motor was rebuilt? What did the replace? How much work was done?

Remember help us help you ;-)

Finding the parts used on ebay is easy & yes some TT stuff will bolt straight on but there are differences (6v & 12v electrical etc).

Firstly you need to get your donk back in the frame to see if it works or not?
worry about the cosmetic stuff later, if the engine is toast then its possibly not worth spending any money unless you're a XT enthusiast? which it doesn't sound like you are?

Mezo.

I need all the motor mounts before I can get it in there. I dont got them. and I'm not worried about electrical stuff from the tt I was just considering the eninge mounts because sellers on ebay are selling them for cheaper vs the xt mounts. I am thinking the carb is shot because only one barrel will move the other one is stuck solid. and the exhaust says 100 on it thats why I think its not correct. and I know I'm missing bolts because of the fact I have no mounting parts for the engine.

Well the bay is your best bet, unless there is a wrecker close by to where you live. Do what Mezo said and get the engine back in the frame and get it started. Do a search on the forum and you will find several write up's on XT600 being rebuilt. This is the best place to start.

OR

Personally I never believe anyone when they tell me that the engine has been rebuilt...I would buy a complete gasket set and then tear the motor down and check everything, reassemble the engine the correct way. This will give you peace of mind and also an understanding of the engines condition.

I have seen "rebuilt" engines that have had nothing more done to them then a hone and new rings!!

The gasket sets in the US are cheep and a great insurance in the long run.

Assume that everything on the bike is toast and that way you won't be disappointed.
The carb should be rebuildable, buy a complete rebuilding kit with all gaskets etc, then get on line and surf till you find a complete diagram break down of the carb, study it then strip, clean and rebuild the carb.

There is a great series of videos on how to rebuild a XT600 engine on youtube, worth a look...:thumbup1:
