1983 XT600 - oil cooler?

Hi, I've just bought a quite tidy 1983 XT600 to replace my fun-but-not-good-at-carrying-luggage Honda XR600. I'm currently thinking of fitting on oil cooler to the bike as I'm planning to take it down to West Africa in the winter.

Does anyone know if I can directly fit an oil cooler from the XTZ600 of the same year? i think the bikes are quite similar. Or is there a better/easier to get/cheaper cooler that might be a better idea?

Also, I got the bike with the standard 11.5 l tank plus an Acerbis 20l tank. If I get the chance of a XTZ 28l tank, could this be fitted directly?

Finally, among the bits that came with the bike is an XTZ bash plate - I have found that this is substantially wider than the standard plate and offers much better protection to the XT's engine 'bulges'. Bolts straight on. Worth a try if you've got an XT.

Cheers for now,

Andy

oil cooler:
of course you can fit the cooler of a 34L or 55W and even the one from 1VJ or 3AJ.
other good coolers you can get here: http://www.kedo.com
i recommend to fit also a thermostat. sometimes the coolers are too efficient and the engine likes 80°C.

tank:
cannot be fitted without modifications.
you have to modify the rear fixing point (tenere: 2 bolts) and you need the tenere seat.

have fun!

thanks very much! I'd better be off and find myself an oil cooler & thermostat now :-)
