I have a 1976 XT500 that ran great until a few weeks ago, when i shift to what I believe is first gear its fine but will not go into 2nd gear only makes noise will go into 3rd,forth and fifth.I am hoping this can be fixed without splitting the cases.Pulling the clutch cover off and checking the other end of shifter shaftdown below the clutch..any advise?. Thank you

Sounds like a bent selector fork or a worn dog on 2nd gear. It's an engine apart job I'm afraid!!!
