08 tenere

any1 get the 08 tenere yet? after i sold my 3aj has been lusting fer a tenere (did not want the tamed down version after the 3aj).researched many other 650 trailes and thought would settle fer the dr650. but outa the blue my prayers have been answered.o8 tenere looks horn.
on the other hand contemplating a wr250r fer outback touring, seems to be the most reliable-interms of service and technology.

the new wr250r set to replace the aging ttr/xt series -supertrail.
has a 6 speed ,titanium valves, liquid cooled top speed of 150kmph.according to geoff ballard u can hold the throttle to the stop from darwin to sydney. smooth as and FI.

service intervals -oil change -5000kms,oilfilter-10,000, clutch 20,000kms and valve check-40,000kms.
needs a larger rally tank-yamaha make one -25ltr.maybe a seat and some racks.
dry wt -126kgs.

sounds bullet proof to tour/off piste/
power to wt ratio is phemoneol.
revs to 10,000rpm.
should unleash bout 40kw ,throwing out the euro3 pipes and installing a pc.
has rare earth internals electric systems from the R1.
sounds better in terms of serice and lonevity than the klrs.drs etc.
any1 research into the new 'supertrail' categoryth a few mods can be anywhere bike especialy off piste.

Wink XT660Z and WR250R are both new to the UK

A comparison, if it helps:-
Motorcycle Comparison Details

The new Tenere comes to the showrooms in the UK in April. As you point out, the WR250R has a miniscule fuel tank but it is priced within £100 of the Tenere. Also, take a look at the engine compression ratios in this comparison.

Time will tell which bike is the "best" !

revs

the wr revs to the moon.10k rpm.and has titanium valves etc.the parameters that intrest me are the valve clearence checks at 40,000kms./low wt./might not have gr8 luggage carrying capacity. but will make up fer it in nimbleness and the ability to venture the wildest off piste.depends whether the tour is going to be road based or dirt based.
in my opinion if i was doing a road based tour i would use my gsxr1000.lol./and it can tackle fire roads and the smooth dirt.
though i would have to admit it i am a tenere fan. love the looks of the 08.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
