Solo ladies in Iran
Hello

Has anyone:
1. managed to get a visa for Iran as a single travelling female
2. if so, could you let me know your experiences. I've talked to many people who have gone as a pair but the women say that if they go out alone it is a very different experience. Just would like some up to date information, anyone who has been there in the last 12 - 24 months as a single female.

hi there

it's kind of a long time that you posted, but i'll reply anyway:
1. it is not problem to get a visa as a single woman (with an passport from a "friendly" country, that to say)
2. travelling alone as a woman on a bike wasn't a problem either. Only that sometimes i felt like an animal in a zoo with all the people staring at me and taking pictures with their cell phones. But apart from that: no negative incidents. I rode with a hejjab underneath the helmet and a manteau, so i was always adequately dressed.
The law that women are not allowed to ride bicycle or bikes is not enforced on foreigners. The same applies to bikes over 200ccm.

I was in Iran in 2006 and 2007, each time for about a month and I enjoyed it.

Trying to do iran from italy in sept. 2012
I spoke with the iranian embassy in milan a few days ago and they confirm: 'no problem at all with solo female riders from europe'.

The main issue with iran seems to be the cost of the carnet de passage, they want you to pay a deposit equivalent to the value of your bike as if it was brand new and then they give you the money back when you exit the country. Soooooooo... A bit risky, isn't it? What about selling the bike in iran? Does anyone know what sort of import duty you would be charged?

Read up on Carnets, there are several options for dealing with the cost, most common is the insurance option at around 10% the cost of the carnet, of which you get 50% back when you return the carnet.

Erm, sell the bike in Iran? Well if you do that, you will be liable for paying all the import duties of the bike...which is 500% X your bike value

banomcleod, to HUBB.

Just an advice: if you post this question in a more spefic thread about Carnet de Passage & Iran, you'll have more chances to get a proper reply. Actually, most of your doubts (who didn't have them?) have already been asked by others, so you can easily find and inmediate answer reading these specific threads.

Anyway, the goal of the CdP is to impede you sell the vehicle without paying the import duties. If you do it, you won't be able to stamp the CdP when you leave the country, so you won't be able to request the CdP deposit back (=you'll loose it). However, if your point is to give away (not selling!) a crappy/cheap vehicle in Iran and return by other means, but always getting the stamp on the CdP and the deposit once back home, we did it this way: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...cle-iran-53220
